Proteas Cricket: Sink or Swim?

Badger here is a long time fan of the gentleman man game of cricket. His first memory of the game was when South Africa played Zimbabwe in 2001.

In those days Zim were still a force to be reckoned with. They had the Strang, Flower and Withall brothers, Heath Streak, Tatenda Taibu etc. Now the team is struggling, but ol’ Badger here think that’s what happens when your country don’t have any money.

Worried About the Proteas

But my dear fellow Cricket lovers Badger is worried about our Proteas. After the World Cup in New Zealand were we lost in the EPIC semi final things were not the same again. It was as if our boytjies lost our mojo. We just had any go left.

The tour to Bangladesh wasn’t the big turning point, but id definitely added fuel to the fire.  We won the ODI and T20 series, but not with our cunning abilities or skills. just because we pitched up and gave our  minimum we won. Badger cant really complain about the Test series because it got rained out. The only thing badger can ask is why we toured Bangladesh in the middle of their rain season?

India Tour was a Disaster

The 72 day tour to India was a disaster. I don’t have anything to add to the limited overs series. Only we could play better.

Lets get to the point of this blog. The 3-0 loss in the test series. Seeing the test players play in difficult circumstances, (doctored pitches?).

I have to ask: Are there any other players we could use? new batsmen, spinners, fielders, the works. And following the the Supersport series several names came up…. Stevan Cook, Temba Bavuma, Omphila Ramela, Keshav Maharaj, Rilee Rossouw to mention a few.

South Africa has plenty of options, all from various ages. I say let’s start a new. Let’s find our champion team again. Lets find the hunger and passion to perform and play for our country.

Test Series against England

Watching the Test series against England I was showed I am on the right track. Temba Bavuma became the first black person to score a 100 for the Proteas’

Chris Morris has the attributes to become a great all rounder like Shaun Pollock, Hardus Viljoen got selected to join the squad….

Even though our cricket has quotas and transformation systems my honest opinion is that we can survive, because we have the skills and the passion and the players. Go #ProteaFire!
